A journey to remember the Women of 1923 incarcerated in Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin 

Libretto by Aoife Spillane-Hinks based on the writings of the Women of 1923 

Music by Stephen McNeff and from traditional sources

Keys signified all of these things to the over 300 women held as anti-treaty prisoners in the Kilmainham Gaol between 1922 and 1923. Some of these women were already well known or would soon become so: Grace Gifford, Mary MacSwiney, Dorothy Macardle. But after their imprisonment, the majority of the women returned to anonymity in the ordinary lives they’d left behind.
